My passion for surf ski racing stems from two decades of competing in national and regional lifesaving tournaments. I have been fortunate to participate in ocean racing all throughout the United States and in Australia. I have been able to balance family, and a hectic career as a physician in pulmonary and critical care medicine with my love for the ocean and racing various crafts. After succeeding in a wide variety of open water events, I have enjoyed focusing my efforts on surf skiing. I believe my lifesaving background and diverse racing venues including 1000 meter surf sprints, and long distance paddles have helped carve a path for some fun open water adventures and success. Negotiating the surf while competing in the lifesaving sprint races has translated into an ability to surf well when the wind is up!
In addition to my personal achievements, I have devoted a large portion of my surf ski racing to raising funds and awareness for a charity founded by my late brother-in-law, Todd McGovern. Working hand-in-hand with Seas iT, a New Jersey non-profit organization promoting cancer recovery through recreation, I have been able to raise thousands of dollars for the charity that remains very close to my heart.
