Come join Austin Kieffer in the 2019 L2L Surfski clinic. Austin will spend a full hour breaking down everything he has learned about the sport of Surfski over the past 7 years. Austin will cover equipment choices and setup, basic flatwater technique, rough water technique, downwind strategies and secrets, warm-up, how to design a workout, building a training program, tapering, race strategy, and race execution. After the talk (and peppered throughout the different sections), Austin will do his best to answer any questions you might have about your own surfski journey and how to get the most out of your paddling!

What you will need: Interest in the sport of surfski and any questions you have about your own surfski journey!

Following the clinic we will provide an opportunity to get on the water with Tom Murn to put into practice what you have learned.

Who is Austin?

Austin Kieffer has competed on the water for over 18 years. He raced for over a decade in whitewater slalom, spending 4 years on the US Olympic Development Team in preparation for the Beijing and London Olympic Trials. In 2012 he made the transition to Surfski and instantly fell in love the sport. Austin has trained and raced all over the world and placed 9th in the 2017 Surfski World Championships. He is the current and 5x US National Surfski Champion. As the Lighthouse to Lighthouse singles record holder, Austin is excited to return to the Norwalk to compete once again in this iconic event and share his expertise and love of the sport!

Who is Tom?

Tom Murn has is an accomplished young athlete competing in sprint kayak at the national level since 2014, representing the United States in 2015. He has raced sprint kayak at an international level over 1000m, and was US National Junior Champion over 5000m in 2014. Tom is now a Stellar athlete and has competed regionally, placing at the Tom’s River in NJ and Battle of the Bay in RI as well as racing and holding a clinic here at the Lighthouse to Lighthouse in 2017.
