The World Championship of Surfski Racing(ICF World Ocean Racing) was held in Hong Kong with qualified paddlers from various countries. There is a standard you must meet to qualify to represent your country. They also have a non-qualified field who can just race. I have not seen those results yet as I post this. The Men’s race had rough conditions on a technical course unlike the Women’s Race the day before that was a long, hot 2 hour flat water grind over the same course.

Cory Hill from Australia won it for the second time in a row, leading the race after the first half mile and rarely looking back until the last 5K when (2nd)Hank Mcgregor, was trying to catch him and well as 3rd place finisher Jasper Mocke. Kenny Rice faded some in the final 5k, but came in 4th and won the Under 23 Class. Sean Rice placed 5th after getting married this week! Congrats to Sean and Emily. Austin Kieffer representing the USA placed 9th so well done Austin! Tim Bourdiak of the USA place 21st. Oscar placed 10th overall or 11th overall due to Matt Bouman not wearing a required pfd (according to Oscar’s FB post). Regardless Oscar is representing the over 50 age paddlers exceedingly well competing with top paddlers half his age and getting it done.
