The Great Stone Dam Race in Lawrence, Massachusetts on the Merrimack River in its 8th year is a wonderful race for many reasons. Today it had a record field with the Unlimited Class(surfskis and K1’s) leading the way but Sups, kayaks, doubles, etc were in good numbers too. It was nice to see more women at the race as well including Robin, Leslie, Pam, Jen, Mary Beth and more! Shawn Burke and Francisco do a superb job of running the race along with their volunteers. All the proceeds go toward the Greater Lawrence Community Boating Program. With easy access on and off the major highways, ample parking, easy put in, and deep water, this race has become a local favorite. I will add it to the SurfskiRacing.com Race Series next year. Greg Lesher won by a wide margin while breaking the course record. Andrius hung with Greg for a few miles then it was all Greg. Following Andrius’ second place finish was Chris Chappell in third place and Chris Laughlin in 4th.
