This will be my eighth time racing the this venue.

Of all the races in New England, this is my favorite. Why?

1. Accommodations are excellent with parking and restrooms overlooking the race course and the beach is only a few yards away. The on/off ramp to 95North/South is a breeze.

2. The course of 14 miles goes around two light houses and the distance is perfect for a late summer race.

3. Conditions generally are moderate for most paddlers but offer some different types of water around both lighthouses and if the wind is right, a downwind leg is possible.

4. The race is very well organized for all types of craft from Surfskis to Rowers to Sups to Kayakers thanks to Gary Williams and his crew of volunteers.

5. Competition: Being in Connecticut, the venue draws paddlers from all over the Northeast including New England, CT, NY, NY, and some from other parts of the country. See who is coming!

6. Sponsorship: Stellar Kayaks and Surfskis for the last several years has donated prize money and will continue this year along with WomenCan International, Ocean Paddle Sports East and Elite Ocean Sports.  The event would not be the same without the sponsors so  be sure to thank Dave Thomas of Stellar, Pam Boteler of WomenCan International, Jim Hoffman of Ocean Paddle Sport East, Mark McKenzie and Mark Smith of Elite Ocean Sports at the race. Even better, support/buy from the sponsors that support our races.

7. Well covered by SurfskiRacing.com: Wesley Echols, Greg Lesher, Mark Ceconi and if  Vadim Lishchuk (Main Street Photography and Video) shows, we can count on a professional grade video and photos of the event.

8. For those who find the 14 mile course too long, the 7 mile course is a great alternative that includes part of the 14 mile course.

So come join us and be part of the L2L and East Coast Surfski Championships! You don’t want to miss it.
