The course will still go out to Beavertail lighthouse but will head WSW over towards Narragansett Beach and turn on a buoy or Island. Distance should be about the same

and two $100 gift certificates for Epic products.
1. Course:
This is a mostly open water, 13 mile race for intermediate to advanced surfski paddlers with the full array of rough water skills.
Please Familiarize yourself with the Race Course: Click on chart at right for larger nautical chart view or view the interactive Google Earth Race Course at the top right of this page..
The start is in the mooring fields between the Bay Voyage Restaurant and the Conanicut Yacht Club.
Head south toward Beavertail Point and around the Buoy several hundred yards off of Beavertail Lighthouse. After rounding the buoy “NR” off of Beavertail racers will proceed west approximately 1 mile and clockwise round a small island called Whale Rock that holds the remains of Whaleback Light house. It is close to the buoy “G3”. Racers do not have to re-round the buoy “NR” off Beavertail again. After rounding Whale Rock racers will proceed back toward the Beavertail lighthouse on a course they choose to the finish line at CYC.”
2. Safety
You are responsible for your own safety! There is NO safety boat! Come fully self sufficient. Think of this as an informal gathering of paddlers who hold an informal race.
Completing the Blackburn Challenge would be an appropriate qualifier. If you are not comfortable and skilled doing the Blackburn, then this race is not for you. You must have very strong skills at remounting your ski. Conditions are usually very challenging.
There are several take out points if necessary. Ft. Wetherall, Mackerel Cove, Heads Beach and Ft. Getty. Familiarize yourself with these places using a map or chart.
Have sufficient food/drink for 2-3+ hrs. depending on your skill and conditions. Carry your cell phone in a completely waterproof bag. Bring you paddle leash or leg leash and wear your PFD!
3. Alternate Course
There are many options for alternate courses toward the northern end of the island. There is always a lee side of the island so unless the weather is really bad there will be a race.
Look forward to seeing everyone!!
